Bilmek, inanmak, şüphe duymak, emin olmak gibi konuların etrafında dönen bu değinilerde okur, eserin aslen yayım için hazırlanmamış notlardan oluşması nedeniyle, yalnızca yazarın düşüncelerini değil, tinsel uğraşını, akıl yürütme tarzını, ele aldığı alanı incelerken attığı adımları da izleyebilir. Wittgenstein'ın en önemli eserleri arasında yer alan kitap kimi araştırmacılar tarafından onun düşüncesindeki yeni bir aşama olarak da yorumlanmıştır.Kültür ve Değer, VVittgenstein'ın 1951'de ölümünden sonra geride bıraktığı folyolar halindeki elyazması notlardan derlenmiştir; ağırlıklı olarak felsefe, sanat ve kültür konularındaki değinilerinden oluşan bir seçmedir. İlk kez 1977 yılında G. H. von VVright ve Heikki Nyman tarafından Almancada Vermischte Bemerkungen adı altında yayımlanan eser daha sonra genişletilmiş ve Ingilizcede, bizim de Türkçesi için kullandığımız Culture and Value başlığıyla yayımlanmıştır.
