- J. RR Tolkien called the Second Age of Middle-earth a dark age. The Fall of Numenor, which is considered the breaking point of this period, detailed in Unfinished Tales, especially The Silmarillion, and Christopher Tolkien's twelve-volume History of Middle-earth, is collected in a single volume for the first time and offers readers a new history specifically for Numenor. Numenor, which was granted to the people of Middle-earth as a reward for helping the Valar and elves in the defeat of Morgoth, became the cradle of civilization and the center of wealth over time. His people were famous for their wisdom and bravery. But Manwe had one condition, that the Numenoreans could not go in search of the Blessed Realms, envying the immortality of the Valar and Eldar. However, as the power of the Numenoreans increased, the fear of death enveloped them, their greed and arrogance darkened their hearts in Sauron's whispers, and thus the seeds of Numenor's fall were sown.This turbulent history of more than three thousand years would witness events that would affect the entire Middle Earth, from the beating of the Rings of Power to the construction of Barad-dur and the rise of Sauron.The Fall of Numenor tells the history of Middle-earth, along with Alan Lee's illustrations in his now classic style, adhering to the timeline of the Tale of the Years section in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings and making use of all of Tolkien's published texts.
