Resposta: The sponge filter needs to be replaced or washed once per month. If you choose to wash the sponge, fill a bucket with 70-80 degree water that has been treated to remove chlorine and wash your sponge out with that water. Take the filter apart and clean the plastic parts with tap water to remove algae. Also remove the motor and pull out the little impeller and clean the impeller compartment with a Q-tip. Wipe algae off the impeller with a wet paper towel. Put the whole thing back together and put back in your tank. Do this cleaning process once per month. Put in a new sponge about once every 3 cleanings.
