The OWC Mercury Elite Pro 16TB SATA 6.0Gb/s USB 3.1 Thunderbolt 3 Dock and Dual-Drive RAID Solution is a convenient storage solution that boasts compatibility with both Mac OS and Windows OS. The fan is relatively quiet at 14.5 dB(A) and there are drive sleep settings that can be configured through the operating system. The device does not require any kernel extensions to connect to macOS. The thunderbolt out port allows for daisy-chaining of additional displays. It is possible to use the dock portion of the device even without drives. In independent mode, users can install and use an HDD and SSD. However, only one host computer can access the drives at a time. The main customer feedback on this product relates to the noise from the fan, which is reportedly loud. There is no power switch, which could be inconvenient for those looking to power down the drives. Some users experienced difficulty mounting the drives on occasion. The device was generally found to be well-Constructed and easy to set up.
