Detalhes do produto

Time School: We Will Remember Them (The Time School Series: Book 1)It’s no ordinary day at school when you find yourself transported back 100 years by a magical train. When Jess and her friends are taken back in time, first they need to find out what year they’ve come to. Then they need to find out why. There’s been a power cut. Jess and best friends, Nadia, Ash and Tomma are running late for school and only just make it to the station in time to catch their train. Something is different though. It’s no ordinary train; this one looks more like the Hogwarts Express and when they get to school, that looks different too. Buildings are missing for a start! With talk of bombings, hunger and fighting, it soon becomes clear the children have gone back in time. All they know is there’s a war on, but it’s not until they get home that they work out the exact year: it’s November 1918, right before the Armistice. Is this the reason they’ve been sent back in time – so they can experience this historical moment for themselves? With Jess feeling such a strong connection to Martha, a young girl they meet at the 1918 version of their school – the only one who bothers to talk to them – she wonders whether there might be more to it than that.Time School: We Will Remember Them is the first book in the Time School series which follows Jess, Nadia, Ash and Tomma as they navigate their way through the first year of secondary school (7th Grade) whilst experiencing what life was like during pivotal moments in history and learning about their ancestry.Ideal for those who love historical fiction, time-travel adventures and books about friendship, the series is upper middle grade, aimed at children aged 9-12 years.“A perfect time slip story for children to understand what life was like during WWI (Great Britain). The links between WWI and now using the school as a lynchpin are great.”

Military & Wars Editorial Review

**Editorial Review** "Time School: We Will Remember Them" by Nikki Young offers a delightful blend of adventure and educational themes, capturing the imagination of young readers while subtly introducing them to pivotal historical events. The narrative follows four friends—Jess, Nadia, Tomma, and Ash—who inadvertently travel back in time to the tumultuous era just before the end of World War I. Amidst the familiar banter and concerns typical of childhood, the story immerses them into an unfamiliar world marked by societal changes brought on by war, including rationing and shifts in gender roles. The writing stands out with its authentic portrayal of children's dialogue, making the characters relatable and their adventures engaging. As the young protagonists navigate the peculiarities of their historical surroundings—from steam trains to vintage clothing—they encounter challenges that emphasize the value of friendship, courage, and kindness. The narrative acts as a gentle introduction to the complexities of wartime experiences without overwhelming the reader with heavy details. Though the book is concise, it manages to weave significant themes into the storyline, making it an ideal read for children. It effectively balances its time-travel premise with educational elements, providing an opportunity to reflect on how the past affects the present. The pivotal moments they experience and the lives they touch highlight the story's core message of remembrance and resilience. With a satisfying conclusion, "Time School" not only entertains but also uplifts young readers, marking it as a noteworthy entry in children’s literature. It evokes nostalgic comparisons to classic tales reminiscent of Enid Blyton, making it a treasure for both listeners and young readers alike. **
