is this a right and left hand retrieve?
Resposta: Yes, all Okuma spinning reels can be changed from left to right or right to left hand retrieve. All you have to do is remove the handle nut screw found on the opposite side of the body from the handle. This handle nut screw will be inline with the handle. Remove this screw handle nut and the handle itself and reassemble on the opposite side. There will be a plastic spacer on the end of the handle screw threads. This should remain on the screw threads and be switched to the opposite side once you remove the handle. -

Would the av 1000 be the same size and line capacity specs as the shimano 1000 series? are the comparable ultralights?
Resposta: Don’t know if line capacity is comparable but I really like the Okuma 1000. It holds plenty enough for Crappie fishing and the drag and ratio is great.

The reel can be changed from left to right or right to left hand retrieve, making it convenient to use. Although the line capacity is limited to 85 yds/4lb mono, it doesn't cause any inconvenience for fishing. The instant anti-reverse, light weight, and silky smooth drag make it a much-needed addition to the fishing gear, especially if you're into ultra-light gear. Customers have also reported that it has a zero backlash, is solid, and has a narrow spool.
