How does the locking feature of the ParaLock Plotter work?

The locking feature of the ParaLock Plotter operates by engaging a mechanism that temporarily secures the plotter's position once it's set on a specific point on the chart. This prevents any inadvertent movement while referencing other navigation tools or taking readings. By ensuring that your plotted point remains fixed, it minimizes the chance of errors during navigation, which is crucial when you’re sailing in challenging conditions.

Is the Weems & Plath ParaLock Plotter suitable for beginners?

Yes, the Weems & Plath ParaLock Plotter is indeed suitable for beginners. Its intuitive design and clear markings make it accessible for new navigators who are still familiarizing themselves with chart plotting. Additionally, the clarity it provides enables beginners to understand the navigation process effectively, combining the teaching of essential skills with practical application, ensuring a smooth learning curve.

Its robust design is ideal for both casual outings and extended maritime adventures, ensuring reliability over time.

Can the ParaLock Plotter be used in conjunction with electronic navigation tools?

Absolutely! The ParaLock Plotter can effectively be used alongside electronic navigation systems. Sailors can plot their routes manually using the plotter while simultaneously utilizing digital systems for additional data and analysis. This dual approach helps to cross-verify information and enhances navigational accuracy, especially in areas with limited GPS reception, giving navigators a backup method to ensure safe travels.

What is the size of the Weems & Plath ParaLock Plotter?

The Weems & Plath ParaLock Plotter typically comes in a compact size that makes it convenient for onboard storage and practical for use while navigating. Its size is particularly suitable for small to medium vessels, ensuring that it is a handy tool without taking up too much space in your gear.

How do you maintain the ParaLock Plotter?

Maintaining the ParaLock Plotter is relatively simple. It requires regular cleaning with a soft cloth to remove salt and debris from the surface. It's also important to store it in a dry place when not in use to prevent wear and tear. Regular checks for any signs of wear in the locking mechanism contribute to its longevity. Proper care ensures that the plotter remains reliable and ready for your adventures on the water.

Can I use the ParaLock Plotter in different types of waters?

Yes, you can use the ParaLock Plotter in various types of waters, including coastal, inland, and open ocean environments. Its design is versatile enough to provide accurate readings regardless of the water type. Whether you're sailing in calm lakes or navigating through complex coastal lines, this tool aids in maintaining your intended course. It is particularly advantageous in unfamiliar areas where precise navigation can significantly enhance safety.

What is the scale of the Weems & Plath Marine Navigation ParaLock Plotter?

The Weems & Plath Marine Navigation ParaLock Plotter generally features multiple scales that correspond to different marine chart types. This allows navigators to select the appropriate scale based on their navigation needs. WEEMS & PLATH Marine GPS Chartplotters 90 Editorial Review

The Weems & Plath Marine Navigation ParaLock Plotter is a compact and well-made tool for marine navigation. Easy to use and read, it is particularly suited for use on smaller boats with limited space for navigation equipment. However, some users have found it to be too small and requiring a lot of maneuvering to get it across bigger charts. Additionally, it is seen primarily as a supplement to parallel rulers, which many users prefer for practical implementation.
