What is the Directed Electronics Universal Remote Start Interface?

The Directed Electronics Universal Remote Start Interface is a device designed to enable remote engine starting capabilities in compatible vehicles. It works by interfacing with your vehicle's ignition system and is specifically designed for models with selectable key windings. This interface helps in enhancing convenience, as you can start your car from a distance, allowing it to warm up or cool down before you enter. This product is ideal for colder climates or during hot summer days, offering both comfort and security functionalities.

How does the selectable key winding feature work?

The selectable key winding feature allows the user to choose the appropriate key type for their specific vehicle model. This functionality ensures compatibility with a variety of ignition systems, thus enabling seamless remote starting. Users can select the key winding through the device’s interface, tailoring the installation to their vehicle's needs. This versatility makes it suitable for a wider range of vehicles, ensuring users have a customized solution for their remote start needs, enhancing ease of use and functionality.

Is a working ignition key required for installation?

Yes, a working ignition key is required for the installation of the Directed Electronics Universal Remote Start Interface. This requirement is crucial as the interface needs to recognize the vehicle’s ignition system to effectively function. During installation, the ignition key is used to program the interface to communicate with the vehicle. This ensures that the remote start feature operates securely and reliably, crucial for maintaining the safety of your vehicle while utilizing this technology.

What types of vehicles are compatible with this interface?

The Directed Electronics Universal Remote Start Interface is compatible with a wide array of vehicles that require selectable key windings for remote starting. However, compatibility varies, and it's recommended to check the specifications for your vehicle model. Generally, this device can work with various domestic and foreign vehicles equipped with a compatible ignition system. This makes it a versatile choice for many car owners looking to upgrade their vehicle with remote start capabilities.

Can I install this interface myself?

While it is possible to install the Directed Electronics Universal Remote Start Interface yourself if you have experience with automotive wiring, professional installation is highly recommended. The installation process can involve intricate steps such as wiring to the ignition system and ensuring proper functionality with your vehicle's electrical setup. If you're not confident with such tasks, seeking assistance from a professional installer can ensure a secure and reliable installation, allowing you to benefit from remote starting without any technical difficulties.

What benefits does remote start provide?

Remote start provides numerous benefits, including increased convenience, comfort, and enhanced security. With the ability to start your vehicle from afar, you can precondition your car before you enter, either heating it during winter or cooling it in summer. Additionally, it can act as an anti-theft feature, allowing you to start the vehicle without being near it. This system is particularly useful for people who spend a lot of time outdoors or parked in public places, enhancing both comfort and peace of mind.

Does the interface include a remote control?

The Directed Electronics Universal Remote Start Interface does not come with its own remote control; it works with compatible remote start systems. To utilize the remote start feature, you typically need to have a separate remote control that integrates with the start interface. Most aftermarket remote start systems will include a remote, allowing you to start your vehicle from a distance seamlessly. This means that investing in a compatible remote alongside this interface can provide a complete remote start solution for your vehicle.

What is the installation time for this product?

The installation time for the Directed Electronics Universal Remote Start Interface can vary, typically ranging from one to three hours depending on the vehicle model and the installer’s expertise. Factors affecting installation time include the complexity of the vehicle’s wiring and the ability to access necessary components. If a professional is performing the installation, it's essential to schedule adequately, ensuring that the remote start system is integrated correctly and functions properly with your vehicle’s ignition system.

What should I do if I experience issues with the remote start?

If you encounter problems with the remote start functionality of the Directed Electronics Universal Remote Start Interface, first ensure that the installation was performed correctly. Check the connections and ensure the working ignition key is appropriate for your model. Directed Remote Starters 556U Editorial Review

This Universal Remote Start Interface is a great investment to bypass the factory security system and work with your remote starter system in your vehicle. The device is easy to install, requiring only a spare key that works for your vehicle which is installed inside the device, and an affixed sensor ring around your ignition tumbler to send your transponder keys' signal to the ignition system. However, it is important to note that it does not override the need for a working ignition key in selected vehicles with push-button start. Many customers have reported that the device works perfectly and functions effectively for their vehicles.
