Peter Gabriel (Artist) Format: Audio CD Music Editorial Review
### Editorial Review of Peter Gabriel's "Peter Gabriel 3: Melt" "Peter Gabriel 3: Melt" marks a significant turning point in Peter Gabriel's solo career, showcasing his evolution from the Genesis frontman to a formidable artist in his own right. This album is celebrated not just for its dark and haunting themes but also for its eclectic blending of genres. With contributions from prominent musicians like David Rhodes, Tony Levin, and even guest appearances from Robert Fripp and Kate Bush, the album is an impressive collaborative effort that combines hard rock, new wave, and world music influences. The opening track "Intruder" sets a chilling tone that resonates throughout the album, exploring themes of identity and existential dread. Gabriel's songwriting reaches new heights with "Family Snapshot," offering a deep and sympathetic portrayal of darker human experiences through the lens of an assassin. Tracks like "No Self-Control" and "Games Without Frontiers" imbue the record with a palpable sense of paranoia and social commentary, while "Biko" stands out for its poignant tribute to a South African martyr, foreshadowing Gabriel's future explorations into world music. Critics and fans alike have praised the album's innovative production techniques, which utilize unique percussion elements and arrangements, creating a haunting atmosphere that enhances the lyrical content. The 2002 remaster has been lauded for its superior audio quality, allowing listeners to appreciate the album's intricate details as if they were experiencing it for the first time. Overall, "Peter Gabriel 3: Melt" has rightfully earned its place as one of Gabriel's most celebrated works, earning admiration for its artistic depth and emotional resonance. It showcases not only Gabriel's remarkable versatility and ability to tell compelling stories through music but also his journey of self-discovery as an artist. ### Pros and Cons **
