Günlük, 82 devrim savaşçısını Küba’ya götüren Granma Yatı’nın, Meksika’nın Tuxpan limanından yola çıkmasıyla başlıyor ve Fidel’in de katıldığı Alegria de Pio’daki ilk çarpışmayla devam ediyor. Che’nin amacı, ülkenin belli bir bölümünde katıldığı bazı saldırı, çatışma ve çarpışmalara ilişkin bir dizi kişisel anıyı yayınlamaktan ibaret değildi. Küba topraklarında, başka yerlerde gerçekleşen, tanığı olmadığı çarpışmaların ve eylemlerin de anılarda yer almasını istiyordu.
