- En la hondura de Versos Nacionales se despliega una poética que pretende ser cartografía y memoria: mapa de un archipiélago íntimo donde lo litoral y lo mítico se entrelazan hasta volverse una sola sustancia.Desde la apertura misma —“Vivo en esta isla / de cien por treinta y cinco / más o menos” — el poeta reclama una geografía que es a la vez topografía y alma; una isla que no señala únicamente coordenadas, sino modalidades de ser y de recordar. Ese apostamiento inaugural no es mera localización, sino proclama estética: la isla como laboratorio de lo sagrado y lo cotidiano, la medida de lo posible y lo perdido. La voz lírica del Poeta Nacional, trabaja aquí como etnógrafo sentimental: pone en catálogo los objetos menores —“cada gota de azahar / cada lágrima / cada espíritu de sal” — y los eleva a reliquias de una nación en tránsito.La imaginería animal y vegetal —repetida y renovada en episodios como la “serpiente emplumada” o la “reinita feliz”— actúa como sistema simbólico complejo. Animales y plantas no son alegorías simplistas sino portadores de historia, deseo y duelo: la tortuga, el coquí, el pitirre, y la ceiba conforman una zoología y botánica de la patria que funda la identidad en lo vivo. Estas imágenes funcionan como nodos semióticos donde convergen memoria, paisaje y espiritualidad: el poema nombra y, al nombrar, consagra.También hay en Versos Nacionales una economía dramática del lenguaje que hace de la variación rítmica su táctica política. Los cambios de tempo —del salmo al susurro, del canto al grito— articulan una performatividad verbal que obliga al lector a desplazarse corporalmente por el poema. Cuando la prosodia se abre a la anáfora y al lapso coral, el texto opera como liturgia moviente: “que si te pongo aquí / que si te pongo allá / que sí / que no / que sí / que sí…”, líneas que funcionan como estribillo y como gesto de perplejidad histórica.En esos micro fenómenos se lee una hermenéutica de la pertenencia que sustituye la grandilocuencia por la precisión sensorial; la sal, la espuma, el manglar y el naranjo vuelven a ser signos móviles de una identidad que resiste a la vez que se fragmenta. La insistencia en lo táctil y lo líquido hace que el poema no solo nombre, sino reconstruya el tejido corporal del territorio: “Es la entrega… / Es la entrega del manglar / y del naranjo / en los labios del caudal”.Si hay una economía estética en Versos Nacionales, es la de la metáfora que se hace biografía colectiva. El mar —“Es el zumo del latido del coral”— funciona como motor mitopoético y como archivo: trae amigos, trae historias, trae “los cuentistas para el múcaro / los acróbatas para el zorzal”. Ese flujo oceánico otorga al poema su doble movimiento, uno hacia afuera (la diáspora, la comitiva de voces que llega) y otro hacia adentro (la reconstrucción de la memoria doméstica y ancestral). En esta doble circulación se articula una idea potente: la prfatria no es cierre, sino tránsito, y su figura poética debe ser necesariamente plural y migratoria.La poética que aquí celebramos es además una poética de la resistencia simbólica. Cuando la voz invoca figuras de la insurgencia y el sacrificio —las alusiones a Betances, Albizu, Rafael Cancel Miranda—, no se trata de un simple repertorio retórico, sino de una genealogía ética que asigna la función del poeta al gesto civilizador y disidente: “Vine a decirle adiós a los valientes, / a los compinches de Don Pedro Flores”. El verso se vuelve, entonces, arma ritual y memoria testimonial; canta la pérdida y arma el canto que la resiste.
