Scholl, Andreas (Contributor) HMG501651 Editorial Review
**** The album featuring Andreas Scholl showcases the magnificence of baroque sacred music through the uniquely expressive lens of this talented countertenor. Scholl's voice is Consistently praised for its emotional depth and perfect articulation of the text, which unites the listeners with the profound messages of the music. This particular collection is especially notable for its inclusion of lesser-known composers, including Buxtehude and Schütz, creating a refreshing experience for aficionados of baroque music and those exploring Scholl's work for the first time. Listeners have also lauded the diverse range of pieces, as the album doesn't limit itself strictly to German composers, featuring select Italian works that resonate well with Scholl's style. The historical context adds an interesting layer, allowing audiences to appreciate the evolution of baroque music beyond the prominent figures like Bach. Even those unfamiliar with many of the pieces find joy in Scholl's interpretation, noting it as a commendable addition to their collections. Throughout the reviews, there's a Consistent admiration for Scholl's youthful exuberance and musicality, which are especially prevalent in tracks like Buxtehude's "Jubliante Domino." Overall, this album not only serves as a fine representation of Scholl's early career but also as an enriching listening experience for classical music enthusiasts eager to delve deeper into the sacred works of the baroque period. **
