Literary Editorial Review
The novel "High-Rise" by J.G. Ballard tells the story of a 40-story high-rise building that quickly turns into a dystopian society, with violence and depravity. The book uses the high-rise as a metaphor for the middle and upper-class society that can't control their passions in a confined space. The social commentary in the book is fascinating, as it explores how the population in the building is predominantly middle-class and wealthy. However, some readers found the book to be completely unbelievable and unrealistic, with characters suddenly turning to violence and depravity without justification. Many were upset by the sexual assaults, incest, animal abuse, and cannibalism portrayed in the book. While some readers enjoyed the vivid imagery and found the story eye-opening, others felt that the novel was narrow in scope and never fully done.
